I would like to improve my smile, can you help me?
Of course we can, this is a question which we are asked regularly. The important thing is to listen to your concerns then formulate and explain a plan specific to your individual needs.
We offer a wide range of treatment options and commonly smile design involves a combination of two or more options.
I don’t like my crowns or bridge. What can I do?
The main concerns which patients report to us about their crowns or bridges are:
They look like crowns and not my own teeth and I don’t like the black lines visible close to the gum.
A lot of crowns can look lifeless and false. This may be down to the materials used or the skill of the technician making the crowns. At Currie snd Gribben, We only use the latest aesthetic porcelains in our crowns near the front of the mouth. Highly trained technicians with years of experience ensure that we achieve really natural beautiful results.
If you have older dental crowns you may notice a black line around the base of your tooth near the gum line. A lot of patients (especially if you show this area when you smile) find this to be an unacceptable appearance.
The black line can be caused by one of two things:
Metal from the inside of the crown showing through as a shadow or metal from the dental crown showing.
Underneath older style crowns (and many NHS crowns still provided today) is a layer of metal. These “porcelain fused to metal” crowns are one of the oldest types of dental crowns available and predate the modern full porcelain options. The metal framework was there to provide strength to the dental crown as the porcelain was inherently weak.
If there was no black line when this crown was fitted this is usually because the black line was hidden under the gum line at the time of fitting. Unfortunately, as we age our gum line moves and recedes exposing the defect.
Most of the time the only way to resolve this problem is to have new dental crowns made. These can then either be made using modern very strong porcelains which do not need the metal substructure and hence don’t develop the black lines.
One of the most modern materials used is zirconium oxide known as zirconia. Zirconia is a naturally occurring mineral which, when processed into a dental crown is extremely hard and durable and resistant to fracture. Another material is E-Max which is very highly aesthetic. We can assess your teeth and let you know which material will work best in your unique situation.
Do you offer Dental implants?
Yes , Dental implants are available at the practice and are an extremely popular option for replacing missing teeth . For more information click here.
What do I do if I have a dental emergency and need urgent help?
Please telephone the practice on 02837525266 as soon as possible ideally at 8.30 in the morning. We will do everything we can to help you.
The earlier in the day that you ring, the more likely you are to be seen that same day and at a time that suits you best. If the practice is closed and you cannot wait untill opening time, please telephone and listen to the answer phone message which will give you instructions on accessing our out of hours emergency service.
What guarantees do you offer on treatment?
We offer a 12 month standard guarantee on all our fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures. However, on top of this we will always assess each case on its merits, and if we believe an item needs replacing because of something we could have done better, we will redo it free of charge whether it is under guarantee or not. We always try to be fair and reasonable and to treat you the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee root fillings (as even perfect technique does not 100% guarantee a successful outcome), nor can we guarantee treatments that you request against our advice.
For example if we advise that the only suitable treatment for a broken tooth is a crown, and you request we do the best filling we can in the circumstances, we will always try to do what you would prefer but we cannot guarantee that filling will last.
How can I settle my bill?
We always request that patients pay for their treatment on the day it is received. We accept payment made by cash, credit or debit card (not currently American Express) and cheque.
Can I pay over a period of time?
We understand that some treatments can be expensive . Because of this, We work closely with a finance provider to help spread repayments over a period of time that is affordable to each individual. This is subject to certain criteria.
