At Currie & Gribben, we offer two different types of dentures; complete dentures and partial dentures.Complete dentures are used for patients when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. Using the latest technology and techniques, We are proud to offer very natural, comfortable and well-fitting dentures for our patients. Using only the Highest quality materials and the very best technical laboratories fantastic results for our denture patients.
Every denture we create is made of two distinct parts, the denture teeth and the denture base.
Denture Teeth
At Currie & Gribben, our dentures are fabricated from the highest quality teeth like Enigma Life or Phonares. The level of quality ensures our dentures are life-like, natural looking and very strong. The technicians can further individualise their teeth by adding edge wear or small cracks and stains to the teeth on request ( see photo opposite).Natural teeth consist of dentine covered with a translucent enamel layer that gives depth to the tooth colour. Enigma teeth have a similar structure with a darker core (dentine layer) covered with an enamel layer that is especially visible at the tip.
Denture Base
At Currie & Gribben, all our denture bases are made from either a high strength impact resistant acrylic or a flexible material which can be made in thin section to fill smaller gaps. We also offer bespoke extremely precise metal based dentures. The bases can be shaped and moulded to match your natural gum texture and shape. We can also shade the ‘gum work’ to give a highly natural appearance which is almost indistinguishable from real gums giving the most natural result. To achieve a totally natural appearance it is important to consider how the gums look as well as the teeth. Natural gums are frequently whitish near the teeth and the tissue varies in colour from a pink to a reddish colour. The natural gum colour of many ethnic groups has a brownish rather than pinkish hue. Within the Enigma Cosmetic Denture System are a range tools for individual colouring of the base to harmonise with your natural gums.
The Benefits of Dentures for Patients
There are many benefits of dentures for patients. Having teeth gives a natural facial appearance and can improve a patient’s self-confidence. Furthermore, the denture can provide support for the lips and cheeks, improving the common collapsed appearance that patients with missing teeth can often face. Patients find chewing easier and more comfortable with dentures and they can often give patients a healthier look. If teeth are lost, patients often find their ability to speak clearly is impaired, particularly in the case of the front teeth, namely the incisors and canines.Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-coloured acrylic base. The base can also be connected to a metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.Are There Alternatives to Dentures?
Yes!At Currie &Gribben, we are constantly asked this question. Some patients find it difficult to manage dentures; no matter how well they fit or are made.
Dental implants are the closest thing which we have to our original natural teeth. They can be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. Implants and bridges more closely resemble the feel of natural teeth. They are fixed in place and do not feel loose or unstable. As a result, implants are fast becoming the preferred alternative to dentures.
At your appointment with Currie & Gribben, we perform a thorough dental examination and discuss which denture type is best suited to you, taking into account your requirements and budget.
The Cosmetic Dentures Process
- Impressions of your jaw and measurements are taken. We check how your jaws relate to one another and how much space is between them.
- Sometimes we will create a laboratory-made tray to obtain a more accurate impression of your teeth.
- We then create models, wax forms and plastic patterns in the exact shape and position of the denture. Patients will try out this model and the preliminary denture will be assessed for colour, shape and fit before the final denture is cast.
- A final denture will be tried and fitted.
- Adjustments will be made as necessary.
